--although at least one fourth of our members voted against this here amendment it passed now we have to vote on the amended version


Class Activities:


  • Internal and External Conflict:  Define and provide an example of each in notebook.
  • Read from play line 410 p. 207 to the end of Act IV
  • Provide an example of Internal and External Conflict that John Proctor experiences?  How is each conflict resolved?
  • Re-read Elizabeth’s dialogue (line 782-783) when she says of her husband, “He have his goodness now.”  What does she mean by saying this? Do you agree with her?  Explain your opinion.
  • The Crucible is rich in Theme.  There are several different ones that Miller addresses.  Choose one of the four universal themes and discuss how it relates to the play.  Be sure to use specific characters and events from the play to support your discussion.   Good vs. Evil; Dissent vs. Authority; Individual vs. Society; Fear vs. Courage
